Check It Out Records is delighted to present their next release SoulFunktion feat. Kenny Thomas “Sexy Girl” (Part 1).

« Sexy Girl’ is a seductive and powerful vocal track produced by SoulFunktion and featuring the vocals of a UK Soul legend, the one and only, Kenny Thomas.

This package features a « SoulFunktion Classic Vocal Mix » alongside a « SoulFunktion Deep Dub Mix », but has also received the heavy remix treatment it deserves. Matt Early, who is well known for his succession of stunning remixes for labels like Strictly Rhythm, Swing City, Farplane, delivers an incredible slice of funky soulful heaven.
Completing the package is one of the most prolific artists from Italy « Dolls Combers » aka Vincent Lacerenza, Manuele Tigani & Pino Di Pietro. They kick the release off with a more deeper than usual remix, which will surely appeal to the aficionados of the underground dance floor.

This is the first of a 2 part package, with additional remixes from Will « Reelsoul » Rodriquez, the spanish guys from OtherSoul and more… You’re going to want to pick up part 2…

SoulFunktion is a collaboration between London based DJ Wally Walton and the legendary UK house producer Brian “Keys “Tharme. Brian has worked on remixes for some of the biggest names in House Music including Tuff Jam, En Vogue, Kristina Blonde, Usher, Tina Moore, CeCe Peniston, Juliet Roberts and Craig David to name a few. He has also played keyboards in the studio for the likes of Dave Lee (aka Joey Negro), Bobby & Steve and Booker T. During the same period DJ Wally Walton could be found playing at the best clubs and parties on the London scene, including being resident at the notorious Roller Express rave venue throughout the 90s, and more recently The Pirate Club, Vocal Booth Weekender, Black and White (to name a few) and also presenting a show on Pressure Radio and guesting on Passion FM in London.

Kenny Thomas is a multi-platinum selling artist who dominated the commercial, soul and album charts in the 90’s. By the time he was 23 he had been nominated for 2 Brit Awards, shared the stage with such luminaries as Edwin Starr, Freddie Jackson, Kool & The Gang, Incognito, Mica Paris, Lalah Hathaway, and Lonnie Liston Smith and was a regular on TOTP! Then, on the eve of the release of his third studio album he decided, in his own words “to get off of the commercial treadmill, take some time out to take stock and then eventually get back in the studio writing and recording songs for the subsequent albums Crazy World and Breathe »…”

Je vous ai déjà parlé sur ce blog du duo Wally Walton & Brian « Keys » Tharme, qui m’a envoyé récemment quelques bonnes promos dans le style UK Garage.
Les deux anglais sont de retour avec une production associant l’excellentissime Kenny Thomas à la voix.

Le SoulFunktion Classic Vocal est une bonne pièce de Pumpin’ Garage sauce anglaise, avec une partie rythmique saccadée et une partie clavier assez limitée… beaucoup de FX’s sur ce mix avoisinant les 7’30 ».
Le Deep Dub Mix est encore meilleur… énergique, percutant, avec la voix de Kenny tournant en boucle.

On ne va pas se mentir, le remix que j’ai préféré est celui de Matt Early. Comme d’hab’ Matt nous délivre une version enjouée, mélodieuse et riche, allant même jusqu’à utiliser des gazouillis d’oiseaux (de son jardin ? LOL) sur le break…
Plus sérieusement, le Matt Early Main Mix:star: et son Instrumental sentent bon la Soulful pimentée de sonorités funky. J’adore !

Plus surprenant, je trouve, le trio des Dolls Combers nous délivre une version Deep House assez lointaine de ce qu’ils nous servent habituellement sur leur propre label. Le morceau assez froid au départ, gagne en harmonie au fil des minutes avec l’arrivée après deux minutes de la partie pads et pianos. C’est cette version qui me semble le mieux mettre en valeur la prestation vocale de Kenny Thomas.

Robert Rivera, le manager de Check It Out nous annonce en outre une part.2 avec des mixes par William ‘Reelsoul’ Rodriguez et Othersoul… Alléchant !
