Guerilla Science feat. Anume : Changes

2013 – More House Records

Record-Label Info

Toronto’s Guerilla Science (Kevin Jhagru (aka Kevin « jazzy » J) & Cullen Greaves) first caught MoHo co-owner / GJ frontman Evan Landes’ attention a few years back and made a great first impression. Clearly this was a Production, DJ duo to keep a watchful eye on. While they’ve been methodically honing their skills and working their way up through the ranks, other industry veterans / tastemakers have also taken notice. Sole Channel honcho Mr. V has said “GuerillaScience are focused and ready & when it comes to the music the guys are in a league of their own…bar none!” Michael Fossati of SpiritofHouse.com added “they create a mesmerizing feel guaranteed to make you yearn for more.” High praise indeed!

Fast forward to May of this year when the guys sent over a tasty lil’ gem titled “Changes” featuring gifted Philly songstress Anume (Changes | A-Nu-Me – get it :-). Upon first listen she reminds you of singers such as Corinne Bailey Rae and dare we say shades of the late great Minnie Ripperton – light and breezy as a summer day, yet soulful and expressive. As for the song, “Changes” hooks you in upon first listen with lyrical and melodic familiarity that is easily relatable. Anume (who also penned the song) delivers a spot on vocal that is simple, honest and has a perfect balance of raw, heartfelt emotion. As the title might indicate, her story is a biographical tale of a woman’s struggle to make wiser choices, be a better person…to make a positive change within. With a bevy of stellar mixes to choose from (including 2 sweeter than sweet mixes from GS themselves), it’s with great pride that MoreHouse welcomes Guerilla Science & Anume to our extended fam!

ABOUT GUERILLA SCIENCE:
Influenced by the sounds of funk, soul, disco, ska, reggae and calypso and drawing inspiration from House Maestro’s Louie Vega, Kenny Dope, Frankie Feliciano and Kerri Chandler amongst others, Guerilla Science have been bubbling in the underground House scene for a number of years, cultivating a loyal following with their 90’s inspired East Coast style productions. Their original works and remixes have added to the output of labels like Eddie Perez’s Mentalinstrurm, Mixed Signals Music, Soulstream Records, Soundtrack Recordings and Shines Records and gained international critical acclaim, support and charting from the likes of Roy Davis Jr., Bugz In The Attic’s Afronaught, DJ Oji, Carlos Mena, V and Tyrone Solomon of 83 West fame.

The talented duo have also spread their unique brand of deep and soulful house by gracing the decks at top billed Toronto dance events like United Soul’s « Do You Love House » and the Roxy Blu reunions, as well as Jojo Flores’ famed “Therapy” soiree. They’ve also shared the stage with top shelf DJs such as Dennis Ferrer, Todd Terry, Nick Holder, Dino & Terry and Lars Behenroth to name a few.

Manutek’s Review
